A word from Lisa…

As a past competitive gymnast, softball, volleyball, and college basketball player, fitness has always been a part of my life. I first began training back in 2006 at a large gym. As much as I fell in love with helping clients physically and mentally, the large gym had some drawbacks, one major one being privacy. For some, the large gym provides energy and motivation which is awesome. However, for others, being in the middle of that environment can be intimidating, uncomfortable, or even bothersome for many reasons. I set up In Motion Fitness as a private facility because I wanted to provide clients with an environment where they could feel comfortable trying and improving themselves. An environment where the only person you compared yourself to was yourself from the day before.

I promote the mental aspect of training as well as the physical. Change starts with your mind. At In Motion Fitness, I want my clients to feel the beauty of balance and the security of strength, not the pressure of perfection. Your workout here is more than just a release of fat and toxins; it is a release of whatever might be weighing you down that day, robbing you of moments you deserve to enjoy. It is your time to be in your moment and focus on you, because you are worth your best health possible.

MY FAVORITE COPING MECHANISM (and why it no longer appeals to me)

I was a compulsive dieter. I’ve dieted, cleansed, detoxed, restricted, changed my lifestyle, whatever you want to call it, more times than I can count. And yet here I am, NOT at the sparkly goal weight I was constantly trying to obtain. Not that I never reached it, but because as many times as I dieted, I also rebounded. Living life like a pendulum, between 2 different weights. 2 different wardrobes. 2 different lifestyles. 2 different self confidence levels. See, we diet. It works, initially. We lose weight. We get compliments. We feel confident. We feel motivated and on top of the world. Then it gets old. It gets hard. It gets impossible to sustain. And we hit a wall. We fall off track. And we struggle to get back on. So we gain weight ba...

A SUPER SIMPLE SUMMER SALAD

A SUPER SIMPLE SUMMER SALAD 🥗 —— I hope you are lucky enough to spend this Mother’s Day with a very special mom, whether she’s your mom or not. I hate when holidays become stressful because of fearing food or having too much to do to host a meal. So for my blog this week, I just want to share one of my favorite recipes with you. It’s simple and delicious. My entire family loves this and it’s always a hit at social gatherings. It couldn’t be more simple and stress free, plus nutritious! I used to make my own poppyseed dressing, but once I found Marie’s poppyseed with minimal ingredients and non-gmo, I often just buy it. Plus, with all the goodness in the salad, minimal dressing is even needed! —— ️So here it is. My crispy, cold, crun...

ARE BINGE EATING, OVER EATING, & LACK OF CONTROL REALLY OUR PROBLEM?

This blog is going to get right to the point. If you feel like you’re problem is binge eating or overeating, or lack of control around food, I’m about to blow your mind. What if… Binging, overeating and lack of control are NOT actually the problem?? What if… Our rules, restrictions and white-knuckled attempts at control are the ACTUAL problem?? Here’s the thing. Tell me if you disagree. We can only feel OUT of control if we are TRYING to be IN control. Right? If we weren’t focused on controlling our food, would we really think we are out of control when we have “too many” cookies?  And who says what “too many” and “too much” is? And what’s “good” and what’s “bad?”  If we weren’t trying so hard to follow the rules of not too much...

DO YOU WAKE UP LIKE THIS??

Do you wake up Monday in fear? Afraid to assess the damage from the weekend? Or your Sunday night binge? Maybe you feel your stomach. Or pinch your love handles. Maybe you splash cold water on your swollen face. Do you wake up afraid to put your outfit on? Afraid of what will be tight? Or squeeze? Do you wake up not even wanting to look in the mirror? Avoiding it as you get in the shower and after it when you get dressed? Do you wake up with a sore lower back? Or your rings squeezed by swollen fingers? Do you feel ashamed that it happened again? Do you feel worthless like you suck at life because you can’t control your eating? Do you feel everyone will notice you’re puffy? Swollen? Fatter? Do you hate yourself and fear you ruined all...

HOW TO GO TO A PARTY AND NOT DO THIS…

My DO NOTs and what to do instead to conquer one of the biggest food fears… OVEREATING. 1. Do not go hungry.  Have a snack an hour or two before you go. Good choices would have a protein or fat, if not both. Fiber would be great. Turkey in lettuce wrap Veggies with guac Handful of almonds Plain Greek yogurt 2. Do not starve yourself all day to make room for that food.  This will only backfire. How many times have I saved up calories only to black out and stuff my face without even realizing it?!? Eat as you normally would. If you know your party may consist of something carb heavy like pizza or pasta and desserts… you could ditch excess carbs in the hours before but this isn’t restriction or deprivation, it’s basically a swap fo...

DO THIS TO BURN FAT AND HAVE FUN

Spring is here which means I’m getting my butt outside as much as possible!!! Though I own a training studio, my favorite place to sweat is still outside, playing sports. ️ It’s been a long winter here in buffalo. I rarely complain about the weather because I have zero control over it, so instead I have something I love about every kind of day. However, since we came home from Hawaii in March, it’s been a crappy six weeks, not gonna lie. I’m writing this for you because I’m all about fast, fun and Effective workouts. I know so many moms will be taking their kids to soccer, track, baseball etc. practices. So if you want to do your workout then, HERE YOU GO. Or just grab your headphones and hit up a track on your own or with a friend. No matt...

5 STEPS SPECIFICALLY FOR FOOD FREEDOM

First of all, thank you so much for your support and kind words regarding my mom’s breast cancer journey. It felt good to share it because it is a huge piece to the major change I made in my life. So today, I want to take you back to day one. The day I decided to stop what wasn’t working for me, once and for all. It was an experiment, really. One brewed from frustration and the thought, “What have I really got to lose? Another ten pounds so that I’ll gain back 20?” It was that time of the month, ya know the one where your cravings become front and center in your life? Where your cravings cause you to be moody because you’re trying to deny yourself the satisfaction of eating them or you’re throwing in the towel, eating balls to the wall whil...

LISA, WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO??

April 20, 2015. My mouth waters with sickness as I write this, even today, replaying that day in my head again. It was overcast and gloomy, like God already knew the results.  Yet on our way there, we belted out “girl crush” by little big town, like our lives weren’t about to change forever. *** “It’s cancer,” the doctor said. My mom and I looked at each other and couldn’t fight the quivering lips or the fear running down our face in the forms of tears. No. No. No. NOT my mom. She’s young. She’s healthy. She goes to all her doctor appointments. She can’t have cancer. Then the instant role reversal. All of a sudden, I was the adult. I was the one trying to be strong. Trying to be positive. Trying to take care of my mom. I was sick to my stom...
