A word from Lisa…

As a past competitive gymnast, softball, volleyball, and college basketball player, fitness has always been a part of my life. I first began training back in 2006 at a large gym. As much as I fell in love with helping clients physically and mentally, the large gym had some drawbacks, one major one being privacy. For some, the large gym provides energy and motivation which is awesome. However, for others, being in the middle of that environment can be intimidating, uncomfortable, or even bothersome for many reasons. I set up In Motion Fitness as a private facility because I wanted to provide clients with an environment where they could feel comfortable trying and improving themselves. An environment where the only person you compared yourself to was yourself from the day before.

I promote the mental aspect of training as well as the physical. Change starts with your mind. At In Motion Fitness, I want my clients to feel the beauty of balance and the security of strength, not the pressure of perfection. Your workout here is more than just a release of fat and toxins; it is a release of whatever might be weighing you down that day, robbing you of moments you deserve to enjoy. It is your time to be in your moment and focus on you, because you are worth your best health possible.

MEAL MAKE-OVER

Yogurt and fruit. Why we typically think this is a “good” choice… Fruit is good for us. Yogurt is low in fat. It’s not a high calorie meal. How this snack PROBABLY makes us feel… Good in the moment. It’s yummy. We think we are “being good.” However, about 2-3 hours later, if that,  we are hungry again or normally craving more food and probably a carb because this snack, albeit low fat, spiked our blood sugar. That caused a release of insulin. As insulin brings our sugar back down, our body wants more of it for more energy, usually in the form of quick energy like sugar and carbs. And if you’re lucky enough to not be craving crap, at the very least you are probably hungry. This is because that snack was essentially sugar. It put...

10 REASONS I LOVE 30 MINUTE WORKOUTS… and you should too!

Hey you!! Guess what??? Your workouts don’t have to take an hour plus to be effective. Nope. They don’t. Besides, do you have over an hour a day to dedicate to working out? I don’t. I have other things I want to do and experience and take care of. If I’m spending too long on my workouts, exercise becomes stressful instead of fun because it is taking up too much of my time, delaying other things I want to do, and adds pressure to find that MUCH time to workout, increasing the likelihood that I won’t be able to fit it in and get it done. That doesn’t sound fun. Or effective. I know I cannot consistently workout for an hour or more. That is why the majority of my workouts take 20-40 minutes. Of course I’ll take longer walks and do some longer...

A LESSON FROM MY EATING DISORDER

Disordered eating. The darkest time of my life. There was no logic that would work for me. No change in perception. No mindset shift was going to end my compulsive weight loss journey. I didn’t start it because I was fat and I wasn’t continuing it because I thought I was fat. I started out of fear, continued out of excitement, and couldn’t stop out of compulsiveness. What changed? Pain. Opening my eyes to the present moment. Not avoiding what I was and not fearing what I may be.  But being what I was in that moment. And in that moment, I was pounds away from the hospital yet many pounds into tearing my family up. But eating disorders are like that. Logic does not matter. I knew I wasn’t eating enough. I knew I couldn’t sit through class on...

WHEN FITNESS GOES AWRY: How to handle the wrenches in life…

This may be one of my most practical blog posts yet. Ok. So you have a plan. You prep your food. You work out. Maybe you even track your food. You have a typical routine. You like things to go according to plan. You have every good intention in the world to follow your food and fitness plan, but life says otherwise. Maybe life says this weekend you aren’t going to be home for more than 5 minutes. Maybe it says you’re going to get to bed much later than usual. Maybe it says this is the food that’s available and you start to freak out. Whatever it says, it is NOT what you had planned. So what do you do NOW??? For many of us, this may be where we throw in the towel. Where get off track. Lose the plan. Hit a wall. It’s where we can’t follow our...

BLOG: MY FRESH, FEEL GOOD APPETIZER (or meal, if you’re like me)

My sister introduced me to this years ago, with absolutely no “diet” intentions in mind, which is partially why I still love it today. While it’s great year round, summer is best. It’s basically a chop and dump recipe, and it allows room for your own variety. My measurements are very flexible and estimated because I don’t measure, and you can add more or less of what you want. So without further ado, the GREEK in me presents to you…. ——- GREEK DIP Your favorite hummus (medium package) Plain organic Greek yogurt (8oz?) Fresh lemon juice Cucumbers Red peppers Scallions Feta Fresh pita bread —— 1. Spread dish (9” pie plate) with your desired amount of hummus. Pick your favorite flavor, I love roasted garlic 2. Mix plain yogurt wit...

RECIPE: MY WARM WEATHER GO TO

I personally hate plain Greek yogurt. I want to like it. But I don’t. Even with berries it doesn’t work for me. So one day, I had extra mashed banana and decided to mix it in with my yogurt. It was good, but what makes every banana treat better….? PEANUT BUTTER. I added in some of that and then it reminded me of Perry’s peanut butter chip frozen yogurt, ESP if you don’t mix the peanut butter all the way and leave it like swirls. So I found my trusty mini chocolate chips and BAM. I had myself I frozen yogurt substitute with way less sugar! And if you know me, you know I’m not even about substituting. I like the real deal. So this is real. And REALLY GOOD. I’m not sure if I like it better fresh or frozen, but let me know what you think!...

WHAT I CAN OFFER YOU…

Hey you, the one who’s like how could Lisa help me?? What does she know, she’s in shape and likes to workout. She doesn’t have a giant weight loss story or transformation.❗️ —— While all of those are true, I believe I can offer you something even better. I can help you stop being obsessed with food, fitness and your body. My life doesn’t revolve around food anymore and because of that, it doesn’t revolve around fitness and my body either. —- I am not offering you my help to get you to your goal weight forever, as if that even exists or anyone else can help you get there and stay there, forever. —- What I can offer you is enjoyment. Sanity. Peace. Calm. Trust. Around food. Fitness. And your body. And THAT is sustainable. That can last foreve...

ONE THING YOU MUST STOP FIGHTING TODAY

This picture isn’t to be like look my waist is too little for my legs like the girls who say how hard it is to find jeans.  I don’t have a waist. Not a tiny waist. Not hourglass. Not pear. Not Apple. I’m a board. Straight as an arrow. No big boobs or big butt. No voluptuous hips. Straight. The only way I got shape was because of my muscle. But when I decided to take this picture, I wasn’t mad. I was actually laughing. It’s ridiculous. Buying jeans is ALWAYS an issue for me. And not cuz “I have a tiny waist” or “because I got ass for days” like you commonly would hear.  But because of my calves. Because of my muscular legs. Because of more narrow hips and no waist that goes in. I’m pretty sure it’s not a common shape that designers make jean...
