A word from Lisa…

As a past competitive gymnast, softball, volleyball, and college basketball player, fitness has always been a part of my life. I first began training back in 2006 at a large gym. As much as I fell in love with helping clients physically and mentally, the large gym had some drawbacks, one major one being privacy. For some, the large gym provides energy and motivation which is awesome. However, for others, being in the middle of that environment can be intimidating, uncomfortable, or even bothersome for many reasons. I set up In Motion Fitness as a private facility because I wanted to provide clients with an environment where they could feel comfortable trying and improving themselves. An environment where the only person you compared yourself to was yourself from the day before.

I promote the mental aspect of training as well as the physical. Change starts with your mind. At In Motion Fitness, I want my clients to feel the beauty of balance and the security of strength, not the pressure of perfection. Your workout here is more than just a release of fat and toxins; it is a release of whatever might be weighing you down that day, robbing you of moments you deserve to enjoy. It is your time to be in your moment and focus on you, because you are worth your best health possible.

Happy 6th Birthday, IN MOTION FITNESS

It’s that time of the year again. Yup, my gym, In Motion Fitness, is celebrating its birthday. It’s 6th birthday to be exact. When I opened, we were the only fitness facility on our village strip, aside from a 24 hour access gym. Today, every few buildings consists of a fitness facility. And we are still here. When I opened In Motion Fitness, I was just looking for a private place where I could serve my clients. A place that was clean and inviting that didn’t consist of many members of a public gym people watching. A place where my clients could feel comfortable trying to improve themselves and also didn’t have to compete for equipment. A place where attention is on my clients and laughs are a must. A place where struggles can be expressed,...

I DON’T GIVE A GUAC!!!

I love food. I love being fit and healthy. For the longest time, I thought I couldn’t be fit and healthy unless I denied my love for food. I thought I couldn’t eat my favorite foods and be fit and healthy because everything I read and saw told me otherwise. It told me that I needed more willpower. It told me to keep my eye on the prize. It told me any of my favorite foods were reserved for “cheat” days only. It told me I was basically pathetic and would die for eating “bad” food. It told me restriction was a strength and pizza was a weakness. It told me everyone should love kale and hate gluten. It told me fat was bad then it told me fat was amazing. It told me carbs make you fat then told me to carb cycle. It told me to eat 200 grams of pr...

THOU SHALL NOT FEAR VACATION

I’m writing this blog for those of you who fear vacation. For those of you who fear gaining weight on vacation. For those of you who fear not having fun because you’re too self conscious. And for those of you who fear “losing your progress” on vacation. I hear you. I posted a picture of my body on day one and day ten and a few in between. This is to show you that I didn’t fear my vacation and I also didn’t “get fatter” or “lose my progress.” I also posted a collage of all the “scary” foods I ate and “scary” drinks I had. You won’t see photos of my salads and fruit. You probably know I had my fair share of those. But what you’re probably more curious about is how I handled my food being away for almost two weeks. I did not cook one meal. I a...

WHY I DON’T COUNT MACROS

In case you weren’t sure…️ I’m a nerd. A love math. I love the step by step approach to get a final answer. To get a specific answer. You’d think I would LOVE to count my macros. Make all the puzzle pieces fit. Make my equations work out just so. But actually, I really don’t care to track my macros. Scientifically, this approach works. And for some people, this approach works. However, I really found I didn’t want to be preoccupied with tracking and doing math just to eat a freakin meal. Take this with a grain of salt. Like I say, only you and your body knows what would be the best fit for you. Different goals require different approaches but my goal is not to be a mathematician. My goal is to enjoy my life beyond food so this is just...

THE ONE THING I WANTED TO LIVE WITHOUT

So you gained weight, you’re ok. Do you freak out when you’ve gained some pounds? Do you go into panic mode like you need to make the changes today so you can get those said pounds off ASAP? And let’s say you lose them. Have you stayed there?? I am a self confessed recovering yo-yo dieter. And from my past, I can 100% support the fact that NOTHING IS FOREVER. NOT 12 pounds up and NOT 12 pounds down.  Our life is and always will be, seasons and stages. We are lying to ourselves if we think otherwise. But the real challenge is in how we mentally approach these seasons. Do we approach them with grace, kindness, self compassion and understanding? That’s doesn’t mean I say to throw all caution to the wind about your health and body. What I mean...

An Ode to Valentine’s Day – A Few of My Loves – Food, Fitness & Wardrobe Style <3

This week, I am giving you all a Valentine’s Day gift!  As a chocoholic, Valentine’s Day is not that much different than any other day of the year, to me. My fiance and I will workout together.  I will cook our favorite meal.  And I most certainly will eat some chocolate.  But, for this Valentine’s Day, I want to share with you all of these things, and then some. 🙂 These are my current LOVES, in no particular order 😉 1.  MY FAVORITE LEGGINGS:  I know these are not the most affordable everyday leggings, but I have never found a pair of leggings that are more comfortable!!  These are soft, not see through.  They don’t squeeze a muffin top or saw me in half like a sausage.  They stay up when I sit, squat, burpee or bend...

SUPERBINGE SUNDAY

SUPERBINGE SUNDAY The second biggest eating day of the year, behind thanksgiving, is here. SUPERBINGE, I mean super bowl, Sunday. I thought of all of you this morning as I was in line at a popular doughnut shop. Yes, you read that right. I’ve been craving a doughnut all week and we decided we would get one this morning after the gym. DOUGHNUTS ON SUPERBOWL SUNDAY? Even though we will pig out tonight? Yup. That’s what I used to think. Actually, I used to think, “Why not doughnuts? I’m already gonna eat shit tonight!” But, then I realized I’m not scared of later. I can have my doughnut now, in this moment, and not have it effect later. HOW??? So that’s what I asked myself. How am I able to eat a doughnut this morning without those thoughts of...

5 CHANGES I MADE TO END MY OBSESSION WITH FOOD, FITNESS & MY BODY

CHANGE #5 – I HIRED A COACH (SEVERAL, ACTUALLY.) Change. We love it. We hate it. We fear it. And man, sometimes do we need it. It is extremely hard to change yourself. Anyone will tell you that. And I won’t argue that. However, I will say it’s possible. See, most of what we do in life is habit. Automatic. Our brain likes efficiency. It doesn’t want to have to think about things. It likes to make pathways and dig them deeper and deeper by repeating things over and over until it’s automatic so that it can spend time doing the next thing. And we should appreciate this. This is why we wake up and brush our teeth and floss without thinking twice. This is why we always put our right shoe on first. This is why we respond to, “How are you?” W...
