A word from Lisa…

As a past competitive gymnast, softball, volleyball, and college basketball player, fitness has always been a part of my life. I first began training back in 2006 at a large gym. As much as I fell in love with helping clients physically and mentally, the large gym had some drawbacks, one major one being privacy. For some, the large gym provides energy and motivation which is awesome. However, for others, being in the middle of that environment can be intimidating, uncomfortable, or even bothersome for many reasons. I set up In Motion Fitness as a private facility because I wanted to provide clients with an environment where they could feel comfortable trying and improving themselves. An environment where the only person you compared yourself to was yourself from the day before.

I promote the mental aspect of training as well as the physical. Change starts with your mind. At In Motion Fitness, I want my clients to feel the beauty of balance and the security of strength, not the pressure of perfection. Your workout here is more than just a release of fat and toxins; it is a release of whatever might be weighing you down that day, robbing you of moments you deserve to enjoy. It is your time to be in your moment and focus on you, because you are worth your best health possible.

DO YOU WAKE UP LIKE THIS??

Do you wake up Monday in fear? Afraid to assess the damage from the weekend? Or your Sunday night binge? Maybe you feel your stomach. Or pinch your love handles. Maybe you splash cold water on your swollen face. Do you wake up afraid to put your outfit on? Afraid of what will be tight? Or squeeze? Do you wake up not even wanting to look in the mirror? Avoiding it as you get in the shower and after it when you get dressed? Do you wake up with a sore lower back? Or your rings squeezed by swollen fingers? Do you feel ashamed that it happened again? Do you feel worthless like you suck at life because you can’t control your eating? Do you feel everyone will notice you’re puffy? Swollen? Fatter? Do you hate yourself and fear you ruined all...

HOW TO GO TO A PARTY AND NOT DO THIS…

My DO NOTs and what to do instead to conquer one of the biggest food fears… OVEREATING. 1. Do not go hungry.  Have a snack an hour or two before you go. Good choices would have a protein or fat, if not both. Fiber would be great. Turkey in lettuce wrap Veggies with guac Handful of almonds Plain Greek yogurt 2. Do not starve yourself all day to make room for that food.  This will only backfire. How many times have I saved up calories only to black out and stuff my face without even realizing it?!? Eat as you normally would. If you know your party may consist of something carb heavy like pizza or pasta and desserts… you could ditch excess carbs in the hours before but this isn’t restriction or deprivation, it’s basically a swap fo...

DO THIS TO BURN FAT AND HAVE FUN

Spring is here which means I’m getting my butt outside as much as possible!!! Though I own a training studio, my favorite place to sweat is still outside, playing sports. ️ It’s been a long winter here in buffalo. I rarely complain about the weather because I have zero control over it, so instead I have something I love about every kind of day. However, since we came home from Hawaii in March, it’s been a crappy six weeks, not gonna lie. I’m writing this for you because I’m all about fast, fun and Effective workouts. I know so many moms will be taking their kids to soccer, track, baseball etc. practices. So if you want to do your workout then, HERE YOU GO. Or just grab your headphones and hit up a track on your own or with a friend. No matt...

5 STEPS SPECIFICALLY FOR FOOD FREEDOM

First of all, thank you so much for your support and kind words regarding my mom’s breast cancer journey. It felt good to share it because it is a huge piece to the major change I made in my life. So today, I want to take you back to day one. The day I decided to stop what wasn’t working for me, once and for all. It was an experiment, really. One brewed from frustration and the thought, “What have I really got to lose? Another ten pounds so that I’ll gain back 20?” It was that time of the month, ya know the one where your cravings become front and center in your life? Where your cravings cause you to be moody because you’re trying to deny yourself the satisfaction of eating them or you’re throwing in the towel, eating balls to the wall whil...

LISA, WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO??

April 20, 2015. My mouth waters with sickness as I write this, even today, replaying that day in my head again. It was overcast and gloomy, like God already knew the results.  Yet on our way there, we belted out “girl crush” by little big town, like our lives weren’t about to change forever. *** “It’s cancer,” the doctor said. My mom and I looked at each other and couldn’t fight the quivering lips or the fear running down our face in the forms of tears. No. No. No. NOT my mom. She’s young. She’s healthy. She goes to all her doctor appointments. She can’t have cancer. Then the instant role reversal. All of a sudden, I was the adult. I was the one trying to be strong. Trying to be positive. Trying to take care of my mom. I was sick to my stom...

WHEN SATURDAY NIGHT GOES “BAD”

Chips, salsa, guac, pulled pork burrito with pineapple salsa. That sure doesn’t sound like a meal on any dieter’s meal plan, huh? Well, it’s what I ate last night. It’s one of my favorite meals at a restaurant I enjoy with friends I love. In the past, I would have “saved up” all day and gone to dinner starving, worrying about how I’d get all the chips I wanted and stuffing myself without even realizing it. Sound familiar? Or maybe you tell yourself since you’re out to eat it’s permission to eat whatever you want because you only get it there? Or because your friends are eating whatever they want, you should too? If you struggle around food, going out to eat can be a world altering event every time. Whether you white knuckle your way through...

MY 10 MINDSET TIPS THAT KEEP ME FEELING GOOD

1. Have FUN and SWEAT. I sweat most days. A couple days without sweat has me craving it. And if it’s a hair washing day? I absolutely want to drip sweat. It isn’t because I think it burns more calories. It is because I actually like it. It feels invigorating.  Plus, I love the hot shower after it. Aside from a feel good sweat, I want to have fun doing my workout. It is not to punish me for what I ate or to make room For what I’m going to eat, but to just feel strong and good. And No, not every workout is like a walk in the park BECAUSE I find challenging myself sometimes to be fun. I literally love to finish a workout and say, “Damn, that was a good one!”  I also believe in workout partners. Not every workout. But definitely for some. Wheth...

STEAKHOUSE, ITALIAN, MEXICAN, DESSERT, ALCOHOL…OH MY!

Steakhouse. Italian. Mexican. Dessert. Alcohol. This is the food I’ll be celebrating my birthday with. One with my fiancé, one with my dad, one with my mom and sisters and one with my friends. All in the same week.  Oh and let’s throw PMS in there, too. Just to make this really juicy. I wrote about my birthday festivities last year and I decided to do it again because I honestly wasn’t sure I’d still be a recovered food restricting, over exercising, binge eating, yo-yo dieter another year later. But I am. And I want to share with you how I approach this week in a totally different way than in my 20s. Whether it’s your birthday, a vacation, or a holiday, we all have those situations that make us concerned with the food we’ll be consuming. In...
