A word from Lisa…

As a past competitive gymnast, softball, volleyball, and college basketball player, fitness has always been a part of my life. I first began training back in 2006 at a large gym. As much as I fell in love with helping clients physically and mentally, the large gym had some drawbacks, one major one being privacy. For some, the large gym provides energy and motivation which is awesome. However, for others, being in the middle of that environment can be intimidating, uncomfortable, or even bothersome for many reasons. I set up In Motion Fitness as a private facility because I wanted to provide clients with an environment where they could feel comfortable trying and improving themselves. An environment where the only person you compared yourself to was yourself from the day before.

I promote the mental aspect of training as well as the physical. Change starts with your mind. At In Motion Fitness, I want my clients to feel the beauty of balance and the security of strength, not the pressure of perfection. Your workout here is more than just a release of fat and toxins; it is a release of whatever might be weighing you down that day, robbing you of moments you deserve to enjoy. It is your time to be in your moment and focus on you, because you are worth your best health possible.

FEEL GOOD FOOD RECIPE

If it felt good, I would eat carbs 24/7. Every meal would have carbs and maybe only carbs. Especially, being pregnant. However, I find that just carbs just doesn’t cut it for me most of the time. So, I had to figure out a way to get protein and fat in me too, and hide some veggies since they definitely dropped on my cravings list the last few months! I also had to find something quick and convenient because I am often eating it at work between, or even during, clients. Enter… My egg bake! By making this ahead of time, I have breakfast ready for everyday at work. I used to heat up these frozen egg wraps and I decided I would cut out all the extras added to a processed food and make my own version, as real as possible. And since everyth...

Real Life Blog…

Want a real life blog? In case I haven’t been real enough with you yet, here it is. First of all, as I type this, I’m in pain. Not from a workout. Not from the human growing inside of me. Not emotional pain. Pain from a virus that is causing my throat, hands and feet to literally, burn. I’m fine as long as my baby is fine. That being said, being on my phone today doesn’t feel good. Walking doesn’t feel good. Washing dishes doesn’t feel good. So today’s real life means that after I post this blog because I vowed I would every Sunday, we are going out for dinner because I don’t want to prepare any food or wash any dishes tonight. Plus, thank God my doctor is amazing and lets me text her so that she could reassure me this is fine for my baby a...

F*CK BEING PERFECT.

F*CK BEING PERFECT. PERIOD. Perfect does not exist in food. In bodies. In life. In jobs. In another person. In you. It doesn’t. It is unattainable and unsustainable. So why do we feel we need to be perfect, in any way? I used to plan sooooo much. It gave me peace. A false sense of control. And nothing ever went fully according to plan. Nothing ever went perfectly. When you expect another person to be perfect, when you expect every meal choice to be perfect, or you expect you can make your body perfect…. now or eventually… You are just setting yourself up for disappointment. For failure. Because that’s the problem. Anything other than perfect is failure. Is not enough. And how can we ever live a fulfilled life when nothing is as...

WHAT REALLY MATTERS: QUALITY VERSUS QUANTITY

WHAT REALLY MATTERS If there is one thing pregnancy is highlighting for me, it’s genuine health and nutrition over counting calories and macros. It’s funny how sometimes we wait until there’s a human growing in us to make us think more about what we are eating. What’s even funnier is that SO much “diet” food is NOT EVEN HEALTHY. We have lost touch with health, a pursuit of health, and what really matters. We have exchanged that for weight loss, smaller pants sizes, and pursuit of an image of happiness and acceptance we THINK exists, and with vanity and misconception. See, I’ve been leaner. But I don’t think I’ve ever been healthier.  See, I’ve lost twenty pounds, but I ingested chemicals on a daily basis.  See, I’ve worn smaller pants, but...

IT’S HAPPENING…Coming Soon, JANUARY 2019

It’s happening!! I couldn’t be more excited to announce that Dave and I are expecting our first baby in January!! It has been soooo hard to not share everything I’ve been experiencing from the physical to the emotional and even more so mental. I am extremely grateful for this blessing for us and for the ways I feel I will grow and better serve you guys as well. As one wise man said, the only thing constant in life is change. So with that being said, I want to be able to share all the changes that are effecting and shaping me as Dave and I navigate this new road together. While not every blog is going to be about my pregnancy, I can already tell you it has influenced my body and mind greatly. Wanting to birth and raise a child was one of the...

UNMOTIVATED TO WORK OUT???

UNMOTIVATED TO WORK OUT??? One of the most popular questions I get is, “Lisa, are you ever just not motivated to workout?” The short answer is, yes.  And this answer may scare you. I’m going to try to keep this simple and see if you can follow my mindset shift that happened so that I no longer fear NOT being motivated to workout. 1. If you are forcing your workouts, you will likely lose motivation at some point. 2. If your workouts are extrinsically motivated, (weight loss, six pack, goal weight, measurements) you will likely lose motivation at some point. 3. If you are forcing your work out and therefor find yourself “going through the motions,” you are missing out on many of the benefits of working out. Maybe a rest day would have actuall...

MEAL MAKE-OVER

Yogurt and fruit. Why we typically think this is a “good” choice… Fruit is good for us. Yogurt is low in fat. It’s not a high calorie meal. How this snack PROBABLY makes us feel… Good in the moment. It’s yummy. We think we are “being good.” However, about 2-3 hours later, if that,  we are hungry again or normally craving more food and probably a carb because this snack, albeit low fat, spiked our blood sugar. That caused a release of insulin. As insulin brings our sugar back down, our body wants more of it for more energy, usually in the form of quick energy like sugar and carbs. And if you’re lucky enough to not be craving crap, at the very least you are probably hungry. This is because that snack was essentially sugar. It put...
