A word from Lisa…

As a past competitive gymnast, softball, volleyball, and college basketball player, fitness has always been a part of my life. I first began training back in 2006 at a large gym. As much as I fell in love with helping clients physically and mentally, the large gym had some drawbacks, one major one being privacy. For some, the large gym provides energy and motivation which is awesome. However, for others, being in the middle of that environment can be intimidating, uncomfortable, or even bothersome for many reasons. I set up In Motion Fitness as a private facility because I wanted to provide clients with an environment where they could feel comfortable trying and improving themselves. An environment where the only person you compared yourself to was yourself from the day before.

I promote the mental aspect of training as well as the physical. Change starts with your mind. At In Motion Fitness, I want my clients to feel the beauty of balance and the security of strength, not the pressure of perfection. Your workout here is more than just a release of fat and toxins; it is a release of whatever might be weighing you down that day, robbing you of moments you deserve to enjoy. It is your time to be in your moment and focus on you, because you are worth your best health possible.

WHAT ARE YOU REALLY CHASING?

Did you know dieting has a long term success rate of barely 5%? That means it has a failure rate of nearly 95%!!! What does that mean??? Dieting works until it doesn’t. But what does “works” mean?? That’s a different definition for everyone. And unfortunately, if you stop your diet, you almost certainly gain weight back. SO WHY DO WE INSIST ON DIETING STILL????? I posted a short video eluding to this blog. I couldn’t possibly get everything I wanted to say in in under 2 minutes. So here we go. You will want to finish this blog. And you will want to do some self reflection.  This is not a blog on info. It is a blog on honesty, like always. A blog on my own reflection. A blog on my scary realizations, some of whi...

WHAT CAN WE ACTUALLY CONTROL??

Welcome back! Do you diet to control what your body looks like? Do you workout to control what your body looks like? Do you workout and diet to be a certain goal weight? Do you think losing weight means you’re healthier? Finally, do you believe that if you want something and enough, if you’ll do anything to get it, that you will? Does this pertain to your “goal body” too? Last week I told you I was going to discuss OUR body and what we DO have control over. So what if I told you that in the long game, we don’t have as much control over our bodies as we think. OMG LISA STOP. WHY WOULD THE FITNESS AND DIET INDUSTRY BE SO BIG IF WE DON’T HAVE CONTROL?  Well, for money, duh. They have capitalized on our desir...

WHY DO YOU WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT?

This blog today is not for everyone.  This blog may piss some people off.  This blog may make you say, “F U Lisa!”  But, it may also inspire you to question yourself, your actions, your beliefs, and your “why.” Today, I am primarily speaking to those of you that are healthy, despite what your weight may be.  If you are on meds for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. those conditions are of the upmost importance to monitor and improve.  However, if you are one of those people who are realistically not searching for substantial weight loss (substantial being more than 15-20 pounds) keep reading. In my experience of the up and down weight loss of the same 15 pounds over 10 years, I finally had to ask myself,...

ALL OR NOTHING, PART II

ALL OR NOTHING, Part II Hi guys! Thank you for joining me again to hear the follow up from last week’s ALL OR NOTHING part I, where I explained the rollercoaster of weight I was on for a decade.  Today, I hope to inspire you or at least inspire you to take a look at how you are living your life, especially in regards to fitness. This blog couldn’t come at a better time to explain my progress and life as I know it because we decided to tackle a kitchen remodel this weekend. In the past, this would have sent me freaking out. No kitchen? How will I prep my meals? I can’t use stove. No microwave. Can’t wash dishes. The dining room is a collection of everything that doesn’t fit in the kitchen. We have kids and in-la...

All or Nothing – Part I

I have never known how to do anything half-assed.  If I had to do something, I wanted to do it all the way, get it done, and do it well. It served me well in school as I was a straight A student. It served me well in sports as I always hustled and gave my all.  I thought it would serve me well in fitness, but little by little, I began to see where the land of all or nothing can take you, and how stressful it is there. The first time I encountered my all or nothing mentality was during my eating disorder freshman year of highs chool. I mean, it served me well if sticking to my illness was serving me. Which it must have been for a little while if I stuck with it. Until it didn’t serve me anymore. Then I led a rather balanced, happy life...

Take 5 and Enjoy.

Have you ever stopped yourself recently and ask you if you are enjoying your life? We all know, for now at least, that we only get one go around. Do u realize how you are actually spending your time? Like really. Stop and look. Working, yes ok. Aside from work, what are you doing? What are you thinking? What are you worrying about? What is even in your control to worry about? Are you being authentically you or are you being who people think you should be? Are you doing what you want to do or are you doing what everyone else has requested of you? Are you making commitments you cannot keep nor want to keep, just for fear of saying no? Are you sleeping enough? Are you making rules for yourself like the dishes have to be washed before bed or th...

Banana Bites!

This week, we are keeping it light and sweet, no pun intended.  If you know me, you know I have a sweet tooth.  This treat will leave you satisfied in so many ways, without feeling bloated or sluggish, and never guilty.   Banana Bites Slice bananas to desired thickness, maybe 1/2″ ish Melt your favorite dark chocolate (I love Gihrardelli) *I like to melt 2 parts chocolate with 1 part peanut butter 🙂 Dip bananas in chocolate, place on wax paper. Top with your favorite chopped nuts (optional). I let them freeze an hour or two, then I transfer to a ziplock baggie or airtight container for storage that lasts days Unfortunately, I don’t measure this recipe, but I usually dump a 1/4 bag of chocolate chips with a spoonful of peanu...

Strength Beyond Dumbbells

Every year there are thousands of 5k races and every year millions of people run them. For some, they run to win. Others want to improve their time. Some run in memory or for a passion. And others run for support.  This morning was my 5th Year sponsoring the Lindsey Matthews 5k. I am not a race runner so I cannot compare this other races but I also wouldn’t want to. This run is an annual event. It’s annual personal commitment. And it’s a symbol. A symbol of why I am a personal trainer and what I love about it. And as you have probably guessed by now, it isn’t about pounds lost. No, I do it for what is GAINED. I first met Karen as a waitress with a cool accent at a local restaurant where she would bring my dad a speci...
